MEET OUR BIRDS
Click the photos below to read the backstory on each of our residents!
Commercial Production Hen saved from Factory Farming where most chickens like her are killed at 6 weeks old. She loves bananas and doesn't hang out with other chickens. She sleeps with, and is bonded to, our special needs pig herd.
Chanel was owner surrendered by a breeder after they had no more use for her. Many times visitors ask us if she is ok or if she is sick because she doesn't have any feathers on her neck. She is quite okay, it is simply the type of chicken that she is. They are called Naked Necks or Showgirls. She is sweet and curious.
Dahlia was purchased as an Easter gift for a child then owner surrendered to the Sanctuary when the family could no longer properly care for her.
Dawn was purchased as an Easter gift for a child then owner surrendered to the Sanctuary when the family could no longer properly care for him and did not want a rooster.
Drey was surrendered from a breeder after she hatched too many roosters. There were so many roosters and so few hens locked inside a tiny coop, the roosters were fighting and killing each other. Drey lives very peacefully here with all the hens and roosters.
Joel was ownered surrendered to us with his 7 goat family members and 39 various feathered friends. Their owners had lost their rental farm and could not locate another one. They came to Outsiders so they could stay a family.
Commercial Production Hen, living a miracle still being alive! Saved from Factory Farming where most chickens like her are killed at 6 weeks old. Lolly is sweet and very friendly, but is also cautious!
Red was surrendered with her flock after her owners could not relocate with them. Beautiful and vibrant, her personality matches.
Savior is a very unique looking boy, but he got his name because he chases off the not-so-nice roosters when they are being a little hot-headed to his human kids! A feathered gentleman!
Sergeant is one of the male ducks here, first to arrive with the group of Muscovy ducks that were transferred from another farm sanctuary. He is stoic and captivates your attention with his tranquility. You can often find him just chillin’ in the grass watching life wiz by all around him!
Skylar is one of the most beautiful, unique chickens ever. You can often find her hanging out in the medical barn making sure everyone in there is recovering well and keeping all the other chickens out of her “mansion”.
Small Fry was owner surrendered to us with his 7 goat family members and 40 various feathered friends. Tiny little fella!
